Privacy Policy
Effective 16 September 2026 · Last updated 16 September 2026
Starlane has no user accounts and no servers, and we never see your personal information. The game is paid for by advertising, which is served by Google AdMob — the one part of the app that sends anything about your device to a third party, and the part you control.
This policy explains what the game keeps on your device, what Google receives when an ad is shown, and how to change your mind about it at any time.
The short version
We never see your name, your email address, your contacts or your payment details, and we run no servers of our own. Your game progress is a file on your iPhone; deleting the app deletes it. Ads come from Google, which receives device and ad-interaction data in order to serve them — you decide whether that may be personalised, and you can change your mind at any time: through iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Tracking, and, where the law provides for it, through Settings ▸ Ad privacy options inside the game.
Information we collect
We collect nothing ourselves. Starlane has no back end: nothing you do in the game is sent to us, and we hold no database of players. What the advertising SDK collects is set out under Advertising below and declared on the app's App Store privacy label.
Specifically, Starlane does not:
- ask you to create an account, sign in, or provide any personal detail;
- request or access your precise location, contacts, calendar, microphone, camera or health data;
- read your photo library;
- send your game progress, scores or purchases to us or to anyone else;
- use the advertising identifier (IDFA) unless you allow it in the App Tracking Transparency prompt — decline and the game still works, with non-personalised ads.
Information stored on your device
Everything the game knows about you stays on your iPhone, in the app's own private storage:
| What | Where | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Game progress | A JSON file in the app's Application Support directory — scores, coins, gems, level, rockets, upgrades, season progress, daily streak and settings | No |
| Purchase token | A random identifier in the app's own preferences, created on this install | Only to Apple, with a purchase — see below |
None of this is transmitted anywhere. You can erase all of it at any time from Settings ▸ Reset all progress inside the game, or by deleting the app.
Purchases
Starlane offers optional in-app purchases: gem packs, a Piggy Bank, Remove Ads, a Founder's Bundle and the VIP Pass subscription. These are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store.
- We never receive your payment details. Your card, your Apple Account and your billing address are handled by Apple and are never visible to the app or to us.
- When you make a purchase, the app sends Apple a randomly generated identifier (an app account token) created on your device when you first launched the game. It is not derived from your name, your Apple Account or any hardware identifier, and it is not linked to your identity. Its only purpose is to let a purchase be matched back to this installation of the game if a payment problem ever needs investigating.
- Apple provides us with aggregated, anonymous sales and subscription reports — totals by product and by country. These contain no information about individual purchasers.
Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not by this one.
Advertising
Starlane is free, and advertising is what pays for it. Ads are served by Google AdMob, using the Google Mobile Ads SDK. They appear in two places: full-screen breaks between runs, and the optional rewarded videos you choose to watch in exchange for a revive, doubled coins, gems or an extra wheel spin. Nothing is ever downloaded or installed without you tapping through to the App Store yourself.
To select, show and measure an ad, Google receives information about your device and the ad, which may include:
- device and app identifiers, including the advertising identifier (IDFA) where you have allowed tracking, and Google's own ad identifiers where you have not;
- device type, operating system version, language and coarse location derived from your IP address — country or city level, not your address;
- which ads were requested, shown, watched to the end, clicked or closed.
Google uses this to fill the ad slot, to cap how often you see the same ad, to detect fraud and to pay us. Its handling of that data is governed by how Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and by Google's Privacy Policy, not by this one.
Your controls
App Tracking Transparency. On first launch iOS asks whether Starlane may track you across other companies' apps and sites. Say no and the IDFA is never used; you still get ads, but untargeted ones. You can change the answer in iOS Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Tracking.
Consent (Europe, the UK and some US states). Where the law requires it, a Google consent form appears before any ad is requested, and Settings ▸ Ad privacy options inside the game reopens it so you can withdraw or change your choices.
No ads at all. The one-off Remove Ads purchase and the VIP Pass both remove the between-run ad breaks permanently. The rewarded videos stay available, because watching one is always your choice.
Leaderboards and opponents
The weekly ranking board and the duel opponents are generated on your device by the game itself. They are not real players and no data is exchanged with anyone. The game states this on the Ranks screen.
Sharing a run card
After a run you can share a score card using the standard iOS share sheet. What you share, and with whom, is entirely your choice and happens inside iOS — we receive no copy and no record of it. If you choose Save Image, iOS will ask your permission to add that one image to your photo library. Starlane can only add that image; it cannot read your photos.
Children
Starlane is suitable for a general audience but is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your country). Ad content is capped at a "parental guidance" rating, so nothing intended for teen or mature audiences is served. Parents who want to prevent in-app purchases, or to stop the app from tracking, can use Screen Time ▸ Content & Privacy Restrictions on the device.
Your rights
Privacy laws such as the GDPR (Europe and the UK) and the CCPA/CPRA (California) give you rights to access, correct, delete and port the personal data a company holds about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing.
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to produce, correct, transfer or erase, and we do not sell personal information. Under the GDPR the lawful basis for personalised advertising is your consent, given through the Google form and withdrawable at any time from Settings ▸ Ad privacy options; withdrawing it does not remove the ads, it removes the personalisation. To exercise a right against Google over data it holds, use Google's own privacy controls, since that data never reaches us. The game data on your device is under your sole control and is removed by resetting your progress or deleting the app.
Data retention and security
We operate no servers and store no user data, so there is no retention period on our side and no database of ours that could be breached. Ad data is retained by Google under its own policies. The data on your device is protected by iOS app sandboxing and by your device passcode and encryption.
Third parties
Two third parties are involved in Starlane: Apple, which distributes the app and processes purchases, and Google, which serves the ads and provides the consent form. We use no other service providers, and we pass your information to no one else — we hold none to pass on. These web pages are hosted on Netlify; visiting them is subject to Netlify's privacy policy. They set no cookies, run no analytics and load no third-party resources.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of Starlane changes how it handles information, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on the App Store.
